Representatives of the NGO “Lea”, Emilija Jukić and Milena Petrović, were guests on Radio Bar, where they spoke about the “16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women” campaign, the work of the Shelter, and the challenges women in Montenegro continue to face.

Emilija Jukić spoke about the activities of our organization aimed at raising awareness of violence, empowering women, and informing them about their rights and available protection mechanisms. She also highlighted the importance of cooperation with institutions, particularly at the local level.

Milena Petrović presented the work of the Shelter and the support we provide to its users and their children. As she explained, the work is demanding and takes place 24 hours a day, with the support of a professional team consisting of social workers, a psychologist, and a legal adviser.

Our representatives pointed out that women are increasingly recognizing violence and becoming more empowered to report it, but that society still has a long way to go towards achieving genuine equality and effective protection for victims. They particularly emphasized the importance of education and violence prevention from an early age.

Speaking about femicide and the institutional response to violence, Jukić stressed that the existing legal framework must be implemented more consistently in favour of victims, while Petrović highlighted the problem of inadequate punishment of perpetrators and the recurrence of violence.

At the end of the interview, Jukić sent a message to women that our organization remains available to provide support, conversation, and assistance, emphasizing that no woman should have to face her problems alone.
