On the occasion of Human Rights Day, the Municipality of Bar organised a panel discussion dedicated to the protection of human rights and the fight against violence against women.
The discussion particularly highlighted the importance of women's non-governmental organisations within the system of support and protection for women victims of violence.
Through their daily work, these organisations provide direct assistance to women and children, contribute to women's empowerment, advocate for their rights and draw attention to gaps and challenges within the protection system.
“Women's non-governmental organisations are not only service providers; they are a key pillar of the fight against gender-based violence in Montenegro. They save lives, restore women's dignity and send a clear message that violence is not a private matter, but a responsibility of society as a whole.”
The role of women's organisations goes beyond providing direct assistance. Their work also includes advocacy, awareness-raising, violence prevention, protection of the rights of women and children, and continuous efforts to improve the protection system.
Throughout 2024, Shelter Lea Bar continued to promote zero tolerance for violence and advocate for a stronger and more effective system of protection for women and children.
Through cooperation with institutions, civil society, the local community and the media, Shelter Lea contributes to raising awareness of violence and building a society in which violence is recognised, reported and addressed.
Our goal remains the same – to ensure that every woman and every child experiencing violence has the right to safety, protection, support and a life free from violence.
