In the programme “NVO Impulsi” on Radio Bar, NU Lea representatives Emilija Jukić and Džanela Kadić spoke about the work of the first licensed Shelter for women and children victims of domestic violence, its development, and the importance of providing comprehensive support to women and children affected by violence. They highlighted that, through the expansion of the Shelter’s capacity to 14 licensed places and the strengthening of its professional team, NU Lea is able to provide safe accommodation, psychological, social, educational and legal support to beneficiaries from across Montenegro.

They particularly addressed the importance of violence prevention and the need to speak openly about both domestic and digital violence, without relativization or stigma. They emphasized that violence is neither a private matter nor an “internet drama,” but a serious violation of human rights with real-life consequences. They also highlighted the importance of education, cooperation between institutions and civil society organizations, and empowering victims to report violence and seek support.

Emilija Jukić particularly emphasized the role of NU Lea in supporting women beyond the Shelter itself, through the confidential person service, counselling, conversation and assistance when approaching institutions. She also spoke about the challenges faced by civil society organizations when institutional responses are inadequate or not provided in a timely manner.

The discussion also addressed NU Lea’s plans for the upcoming period, which include strengthening activities focused on violence prevention, digital violence, mental health and psychological violence, as well as educational activities for parents of adolescents aimed at recognizing risky behaviours and preventing the misuse of psychoactive substances.
