On 26 May 2026, representatives of NGO Lea carried out the educational activity “Your Right, Your Safety” at “Niko Rolović” High School in Bar, aimed at informing and empowering young people on the prevention and recognition of violence in the school environment.
As part of the activity, educational guides on violence in secondary schools were distributed to students from all classes, as well as to teachers and the school principal.
The content of the guide was adapted to the developmental age of young people and complemented with illustrations that present important topics in a simple and accessible way. Particular attention was given to physical, verbal, psychological, social, sexual, peer and digital violence, as well as to ways of recognising violence and providing support to those experiencing it.
Through the guide, young people were encouraged not to remain silent if they experience or witness violence, but to turn to a trusted adult – a parent, teacher, class teacher, school counsellor or psychologist. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of preserving evidence in cases of digital violence, as well as on the role of bystanders, whose response can play an important part in stopping violent behaviour. The guide also highlights signs that may indicate that a child is experiencing violence, as well as behavioural patterns commonly associated with children who perpetrate violence.
The campaign carries a clear message that no one is responsible for the violence they experience and that responsibility always lies with the person who perpetrates it. At the same time, it emphasises the responsibility of the entire community – students, teachers, parents, institutions and civil society organisations – to recognise, report and respond to violence.
A school should be a place where everyone, both students and teachers, feels safe, respected and protected.
